Innovations at HEMA are not the result of chance, but of tradition and have been for 100 years!

Heermann Maschinenbau GmbH is a medium-sized, internationally operating family business that specializes in band sawing technology and custom-made cutting systems. Founded in 1920 by machine fitter Paul Heermann, HEMA is now managed by the fourth generation. The name HEMA has been synonymous with quality, innovation and reliability in specialist circles for over 100 years. The company has developed from a manufacturer of standard band saws to a provider of complex cutting solutions.

Today, HEMA designs complete, innovative and customized sawing and cutting systems for a wide variety of materials. The focus is always on the customer's specific problems. In addition, HEMA also supplies special tools that are tailored to the respective material. This complete range enables our customers to achieve economical cutting performance with high precision. Our service is exemplary! We never let our customers down and keep virtually all wear parts in stock at all times.

The perfect product for the customer

The intended use and the associated cutting tool play a key role in the design of each machine. Over 100 years of experience flow into this selection and ensure that the customer can be offered the most efficient solution. Our machines are increasingly used for processing lightweight materials for aviation, wind power and the mobility of the future, as well as for cutting insulation and building materials.

Changing the way of thinking

The agile project management introduced by the current management in 2013 has renewed our traditional approach: at HEMA, instead of rigid departments, there are value-creating teams and function-oriented role allocation instead of fixed responsibilities. Flat hierarchies have been introduced and the team organizes itself. The teams are driven by a common goal every day: to inspire our customers and exceed their expectations. With a highly motivated team of around 45 employees, innovative, customer-specific systems are realized every day. The prerequisites for this are short decision-making paths and a high level of personal responsibility for all team members involved in the project

Everything started to turn over 100 years ago

"EVERYONE should know later who Schlosser Paul was" is written above the diary of company founder Paul Heermann. He was a man full of ideas and drive, a true pioneer who combined a great talent for technical matters with entrepreneurial energy.
The master locksmith worked determinedly under the difficult conditions of the time to ensure the success of his Frickenhäuser workshop business, which he had started in 1920 at Obere Strasse 20.

The quality of his work and certainly also his proverbial hard work proved to be good pioneers: the pioneer soon made an excellent name for himself in specialist circles with practical inventions and improvements to the mechanical engineering technology of the time. When Paul Heermann handed over the management of the company to his son Gotthilf in 1964, a small workshop had become a stable company with 18 employees.

His legancy leads the current HEMA management to success, following Paul Heermann's example. Gotthilf Heermann moved the business to a spacious new building on the former Albstrasse, now Sulzburgstrasse. Between 1955 and 1975, HEMA grew to become one of the largest and most versatile manufacturers of wooden bandsaws in Germany based on the family philosophy "Slowly but surely".


Today, it is Paul Heermann's grandchildren who, in the new factory building in Steinbeisstrasse, ensure that the name and the life's work of the founder remain young with alert, innovative ideas. Christoph Heermann (Ulrich Heermann's son) joined the company at the beginning of 2009 as a new managing director to continue the business in the fourth generation.

On January 1, 2022, Wintersteiger AG from Ried in Upper Austria acquires the majority shareholding in Heermann Maschinenbau GmbH. This means that HEMA is now part of the Wintersteiger Group and forms a new strong partnership in the industry.


The company is therefore built on a solid foundation. With inventive spirit, heart and mind, this stability has been continuously developed over more than 100 years of market presence.
